EUDORA

Eudora is the e-mail program by Qualcomm, which serves as a viewer for the SMS messages saved by Tresmart. Concerning the only use together with Tresmart, it has one advantage and one disadvantage when compared to Outlook Express: the advantage is that the .mbx files of Eudora are easily readable, and are in a standard format which is also recognized by Linux; the disadvantage is that the subjects of the messages may not be longer than 63 characters. This means that Tresmart is not able to copy to the subject the entire content of messages which are longer than 63 characters. But don't forget that Eudora has other advantages over Outlook [Express].

If you have a personal license, you can save your SMS messages to more than one Eudora mailbox (including the predefined In and Out mailboxes), otherwise you can save them to one mailbox only.

If you already use Eudora on the PC:

To create a mailbox or a folder, make sure the mailbox view on the left is active (with Tools→Mailboxes), then click with the right mouse button on the Data folder, or on another folder, and choose New.... If you want to create a folder, tick "Make it a folder", otherwise don't tick it.

Take your time to check the options (Tools→Options). There may be some options which could make your life easier. Also adjusting the width of columns (click and drag on column headers) may be useful, as is hiding some column (in Tools→Options as usual).

When you will have some messages saved, try to sort by the various columns, by clicking on the column headers. Clicking again on the same header reverses the order. Remember that all messages, which by some sorting criterion would have the same position, retain the order they had previously. E.g.: if you sort first by date and then by name, the messages will be grouped by name, and each group will be sorted by date. This can be very useful. The Status column sorts like this: first come the sent messages, then the received ones.

Try also the F7 key while looking at the contents of a mailbox (hides/displays the message preview pane).

If you don't use Eudora on the PC yet:

First of all you must download Eudora (for Windows) from www.eudora.com . There is only one Eudora, the mode is set later.

At the beginning of the installation you are asked whether you want also PureVoice and the Importers. You don't need PureVoice, but the Importers can be useful if you later decide to completely switch to Eudora.

Eudora says also: "please select the folder where you want Eudora to store mail, settings, address books, etc.". If you choose the "User's Application Data folder", be careful, because this folder can be somewhat difficult to find, if you want to have a look into the .mbx files, and furthermore it could be "hidden" (and therefore you need to activate the display of hidden folders to see it). On the other hand, the "Custom Data folder" can be anywhere, but it is better to put it into an easy place with a clear name, of which you usually make backup copies.

Once you have installed Eudora, you can change its icon by clicking with the right mousebutton on it and choosing Properties (the same applies to Tresmart).

When run for the first time, Eudora says: "Eudora is not currently the default mail program - Would you like it to be the default mail program?". Here you must absolutely answer No if you want to use Eudora exclusively for Tresmart.

Eudora starts in "sponsored mode" the first time. To switch to "paid mode" you must insert your license code, to switch to "light mode" select Help→Payment & Registration→Light Mode.

When the wizard "Setting up account" starts, choose "create a brand new email account" and insert your data. If you use Eudora only for Tresmart, you can use the same fake data Tresmart uses in the SMS messages it saves, e.g.:
Name: Me (or your name)
Email address: #@sms (or your phone number, in the form +1234567890, instead of #)
Login name: #
Incoming server: sms
Outgoing server: sms
With this data Eudora will never be able to send or receive an e-mail.

You can easily use Eudora as a true secondary e-mail program (maybe to give it a try). In this case just remember to tick "leave mail on server" in Tools→Options→Incoming Mail.

If you use Eudora only for Tresmart, you can disable the toolbar in Tools→Options...→Display→Show toolbar. Other parts of Eudora can be disabled in the same way. In my opinion, the aesthetics of Eudora 6 gets better if you set Show large buttons to no (I would like to know who redesigned the look of Eudora...)

Take your time to check the options (Tools→Options). There may be some options which could make your life easier. Also adjusting the width of columns (click and drag on column headers) may be useful, as is hiding some column (in Tools→Options as usual). In fact, using Eudora only for Tresmart, you need only the following columns: Status, Sender, Date, Subject.

When you will have some messages saved, try to sort by the various columns, by clicking on the column headers. Clicking again on the same header reverses the order. Remember that all messages, which by some sorting criterion would have the same position, retain the order they had previously. Acquaint yourself with the menu too. Some menu items could turn out to be useful.
